Besides looking pretty (I have chosen most of my belongings based upon how pretty I deem them, including my car) , the screen I purchased — cheap ones on Amazon! — had a few practical uses.

1. It created a separation between our living room and office space, which is quite useful when one of us is watching television and the other one is working on the computer.
2. By separating the two rooms, it also created the illusion of more space.
3. Aside from the downfalls of having an open litter box next to my desk, it’s also nice to be able to hide the box behind the screen. Better that I deal with the poop, rather than my guests. (Speaking of hiding things, people entering the condo can’t see the piles of detritus on and around my desk either unless they actually walk around the screen.)

It beats dorm room-style hippie beads.

In the spirit of coveting decor that I can neither afford nor fit into my condo, I bring you Artecnica‘s brilliant Garland Light. This drop-dead-lovely chandelier is made of brass plated steel, and was constructed by wrapping a continuous metal strand around a light bulb. It comes also in rust, white, black chrome, and silver, but I find the brass to be especially radiant.

The dendritic detailing also appeals to me, as my condo is presently plant-less — a result of both the cats’ strange dietary habits and my general ability to kill any type of sprout I bring into the unit. For those with only ceiling space — and not much else — it’s a great way to make your place look like high-end design was born there.
